Accommodation | Zambia | Kaingo Camp
Kaingo Camp is deep inside the park, far from the busy Mfuwe area.
This section of the park is bound by national park on both sides of the river.
The sheer abundance of game around these two camps is testament to the lack of
human interference. Their privileged location affords undisturbed game viewing
in the beautiful and diverse habitats of the wild Luangwa Valley. The immediate
area supports abundant antelope, two lion prides, numerous leopard and
impressive herds of elephant, buffalo, hippo and over 300 bird
species. Overlooking the Luangwa River in
the prime game viewing area of the South Luangwa National Park, Kaingo's
relaxed, personal and friendly atmosphere offers its guests fantastic
game-viewing opportunities within an area of stark beauty and varied terrain.
From the safety of your chalet you may witness some of the night time visitors
to camp: an inquisitive hyena, prowling leopard, grazing hippo or silently
hunting owls. Accommodation comprises of two
twin bedded chalets, two double bedded chalets and two honeymoon suite with a
stunning outdoor bath on the banks of the river. All the rooms have en-suite
facilities, are well ventilated, mosquito-proofed and silently lit by solar
power. A special feature of Kaingo is the
unique wooden deck built out over the river. From this relaxing vantage point
one can view game coming down to drink, basking hippos, water birds fishing, and
daily elephant crossings. Our hides have certainly turned the heads of the
professionals. In the past year we have been visited by world renowned wildlife
photographer Frans Lanting (twice) of National Geographic, Own Prumm of
Discovery Channel, David Rogers of Africa Geographic, Lyn Johnsson of National
Geographic and Independent film maker Peter Lamberti (Valley of the Golden
Baboon). In previous years the BBC have used our hippo hide in the filming of
the Wild Africa Series. Game Drives Game-viewing from one of our
custom built, open 4WD vehicles is a real pleasure. Comfortable, high seats
allow superb all-round vision and easy photography. Our qualified and
experienced guides will take you to game-rich areas not commonly visited. Big
cats hunting, mongoose and porcupine foraging; hyena, civet, genet and Pels
Fishing Owl, all provide great entertainment and a challenge to the
photographer.
